Huck Finn On A Bike

120 miles completed.  Yes, we rode 120 miles yesterday from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, and believe me, that extensive distance was apparent this morning as everyone tried to get their muscles to start working again.

A great portion of out ride was on a bike path that followed the levies that line the Mississippi.

While riding a teammate pointed out that crossing the Mississippi will be a huge step along our journey because it will represent our traversion into the western USA.  Yesterday's journey didn't take us across this milestone but as we take a diagonal route across Louisiana, we will undoubtedly cross a giant bridge and end on the other side of the river.

As we arrived in Baton Rouge, our route took us alongside a fountain.  Of Bike & Build's 8 routes, ours stays alongside bodies of water like the Atlantic, the Gulf Coast, swamps and lakes for the longest amount of time.  However, most of these are not swimmable watering holes because of gators, snakes, pollution, etc.  As a result, my teammates and I have come to seriously value fountains and pools.  Jumping in fountains is practically a rite of passage for SUS.

After yesterday's 120 miles, lots of my teammates and I happily collapsed onto the gym floor of St. James Episcopal Church for a much needed rest after a long day in 97 degree temperatures and intense humidity.

Finally, just because...
